How to request deletion
Account deletion is self-serve, inside the Sous app — there is no separate form to fill out here. From the app:
Open Sous → Settings → Account → Delete Account, then confirm your identity with a one-time code sent to your account email.
You need to be signed in to complete this — the code is what proves the request came from the account owner, not just anyone who has your phone unlocked.
What gets deleted
Deletion is immediate and permanent. Once confirmed, we erase:
- Your profile (name, photo, bio) and login credentials
- Your recipes, collections, cookbooks you created, and tags
- Your meal plans and grocery lists
- Your friendships and messages
- Uploaded photos (recipe images, avatar)
There is no grace period or reactivation window — we cannot restore a deleted account. If you want to keep a copy of your recipes and collections first, export them from Settings → Export before deleting; an exported file can be re-imported into a new account later.
What isn't immediately deleted
A message you sent that another person's device or account still has a copy of (e.g. a friend's shared chat history) is not retroactively removed from their view — deleting your account removes your access and your copy, not content others already received. Aggregated, de-identified analytics events already recorded by our analytics provider (PostHog) are not automatically purged on account deletion; email [email protected] if you'd like those purged as well. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can't sign in?
If you can no longer access your account (lost device, forgotten credentials) and want it deleted, email [email protected] from the address on file and we'll verify ownership and delete it manually.
